On October 16, 2021, during the final gala of the Innowator Śląska contest, the Central Mining Institute won the first prize and the title of Prizewinner in the R&D Institutions category as well as the special award of the Katowice Special Economic Zone for the BioCargo device.
BioCargo is a novel, portable system for biological sample analysis and transportation. It makes it possible to carry out in situ toxicity tests, respirometric analyses and optimisation tests of a sample (of water, sewage or soil) collected in the field, and afterwards, if necessary, to deliver it to a laboratory for analysis in the same state as at collection. The device provides stable oxygen and temperature conditions, enables the precise control of the sample's physiological state and assures its full safety during transport.
The Innowator Śląska contest is organised by the Upper-Silesian Agency for Entrepreneurship and Development as part of the “Enterprise Europe Network” project. Its mission is to promote and reward the most innovative entities in the Silesian Voivodeship.
The awards were collected on behalf of GIG by the author of the solution, Marcin Głodniok, D.Sc..
