The scope of the Department's activities includes basic tests of solid fuels, those of market value assessment, as well as the tests enabling to classify deeply the fuel in the aspect of its origin, chemical and petrographic construction as well as technological properties.
Solid fuel quality assessment is very important both for the production of solid fuels, as well as for the selection of fuels to various technologies of its use. Diverse requirements of fuel consumers impose conducting a wide variety of tests to determine the specialist parameters characterizing the quality of coal. The most commonly applied are the tests of its energy properties, followed by the information of its chemical composition. They enable the assessment of the progress of the combustion process and the impact of this process on the environment. Also the data on the degree of coalification and coking properties of the fuel are used as the basis for the selection of the components of mixtures for the coking process.
