We would like to inform you that a new General Director of the Central Mining Institute was selected on 20th September 2015.
As a result of a competition procedure, the position of the General Director is now held by prof. Stanisław Prusek.

The Professor is an expert acknowledged by the scientific community and respected by the industrial environment in the field of mining and geological engineering. During his scientific and research career he has dealt with, among others: a selection of underground roof supports, forecasting of longwall drift deformation and goaf reconsolidation.

He graduated from the Silesian University of Technology, Department of Mining and Geology. In 1991 the Professor began to work in the Central Mining Institute. In years 2003-2010 he held the position of the Head of the Department of Extraction Technologies and Mining Supports in GIG. In October 2010 Professor Prusek was granted a title of an Associate Professor of the Central Mining Institute.

He is an Expert for the State Mining Authority for Mining Companies Operation in the area of rockbolt support design, support selection for mine shafts, shaft intakes and workings with cross-section of more than 30m2, and the use of different types of powered roof supports in longwall excavations.

Prof. Prusek is a member of the Mining Committee of Polish Academy of Sciences, Deputy Chairman of Mining Technology, Committee on Mining of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Katowice, and a member of AusIMM - Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy. He holds the position of the President of the Association of Mining Engineers and Technicians in the Central Mining Institute. The Professor is also a Laureate of a scientific Witold Budryk award granted by the VII Division of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

He is an author and co-author of more than 150 scientific publications, including several books, several dozen patent applications and rights of protection for utility models, a significant amount of research and scientific, and research and service studies that have a significant impact on the improvement of work safety in the mining industry. The developed inventions received many awards and distinctions in national and international competitions.
