- The Central Mining Institute is a National Research Institute of the A category
- It has a modern research infrastructure, including 4 research centres: The Clean Coal Technology Centre, Silesian Centre for Environmental Radioactivity and the Environmental Engineering Centre and Research Centre for Renewable Energy Sources and Climate
- The Institute has the status of a Notified Authority in the field of four directives of the European Union and the authorities of the certification body under the IECEx scheme
- It has implemented the Integrated Management System (quality, health and safety and the environment)
- The Institute has full permissions to grant academic degrees of the doctor of engineering and technical science and the doctor habilitatus of engineering and technical science in the discipline of environmental engineering, mining and power engineering.
