The third series of workshops organised as part of project CoalTech2051 took place in Brussels on January 28, 2020, focusing on the topic of global coal trends and the future of coal R&D. Some 70 people from over 20 countries of the EU and other parts of the world participated in the workshops, including representatives of the European Commission. The goal of the meeting was to discuss the current results of project CoalTech2051 and the studies conducted on the topic of research priorities for coal. The Central Mining Institute was a co-organiser of this meeting. The Institute was represented by GIG Director prof. dr hab. inż. Stanisław Prusek, the CoalTech2051 project coordinator at GIG dr inż. Aleksandra Koteras and dr hab. inż. Alicja Krzemień.
The objective of project CoalTech2051 is to establish future research priorities for the Research Fund for Coal and Steel (RFCS) within the scope of coal. Preparing such a scientific road map for the coal industry is extremely important from the perspective of assessing the condition of technological progress on the international level and fulfilling the goals of the EU's energy policy. The project is conducted by an international consortium composed of 4 partners from 4 countries: Poland, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Greece: GIG, IEA CCC, Euracoal and the CERTH institute. It is financed by the Research Fund for Coal and Steel.
