- Verification of hard coal resources, taking into account factors harmful for the environment,
- Assessment of coal resources for energy and coke purposes,
- Development of geological documentation for deposits of hard coal and methane,
- Development of Projects of Deposit Management of coal and methane,
- Assessment of geological conditions of coal bed methane occurrence (MPW) as main and accompanying mineral,
- Testing migration of mine gases on the surface of the liquidated mines,
- Tests on migration of gases to geological environment with usage of computer modelling,
- Assessment of the usage of geothermal waters,
- Assessment, analysis and selection of areas of geological CO2 storage,
- Model and simulation tests of CO2 injection and reactivity using the TOUGH simulator.
The Laboratory of Deposit Geology and CO2 Storage disposes of a portable ECOPROBE 5 device.
The ECOPROBE 5 is used in the world and in Europe as a high-quality device for monitoring of pollutants in the waterside area and for:
- detection of cracks in pipelines and gas pipelines, control of hydrocarbons and other organic soil contamination,
- fast and convenient check of tightness of tanks within petrol stations,
- detection and monitoring of mine gases from closed hard coal mines
- detection and monitoring of gaseous toxins from industrial plants,
- detection and control of polluting substances from chemical and oil industry installations.
In addition, the laboratory uses a multiphase simulators of TOUGH type for numerical simulation of mine gases spreading and their migration towards the surface as well as for dissolving CO2 in rock mass (saline layers), horizontally and vertically during its injection.
